Wedding Flowers FAQs
The best time to book a florist for your wedding can vary depending on factors such as where you live, the popularity of the florist or number of local florists to choose from and whether you’re getting married in peak season (usually May - September in the UK). There’s nothing worse than missing out on the florist you really want, so it would be a good idea to contact your florist around 9-10 months prior to your wedding, to help reduce the risk of your florist being booked. However, if you are hoping to discuss flower options with your florist, reaching out earlier than this will ensure that they have time to fit in consultations and discuss your wedding flower ideas with plenty of notice!
It’s estimated that couples should be prepared to spend approximately £1,000 to £1,500 on their wedding flowers. However, this will depend on factors such as the style of flowers, how full the arrangements are (how many stems of flowers) and how many different floral arrangements are purchased. This is why it’s a great idea for couples to find an experienced and knowledgeable florist that they can speak honestly with regarding their budget, in order for the florist to help them to design beautiful wedding flower arrangements for a price they can afford.
Without any interference or preservation techniques, wedding flowers likely will not last that long after your special day. However, many species of flowers can last up to a week or more with the correct care and attention. Keeping flowers out of direct sunlight and at a temperature of about 5 degrees celsius should preserve the life and perkiness of your wedding flowers. You could also spritz the flowers with some water or wrap them in damp paper towels to preserve their life. For a longer memory of your wedding, petals from your flower arrangements could be dried or pressed, or mixed into resin to create keepsakes.
While the selection of wedding flowers can vary greatly depending on the theme of a wedding or dreams of the couple, some popular flower arrangements to purchase for your wedding are bridal bouquets, bridesmaid’s bouquets, buttonholes, flower arches, table arrangements or table petals. Browsing inspiration photos online or speaking to an experienced florist can help you to decide which wedding flowers you would like, what would complement your venue and match your colour scheme, and the quantity of flowers best suited to you.
Choosing flowers for your wedding is a very personal decision. It is very popular to select seasonal flowers that are in bloom at the time of your wedding and tie in with the colour scheme or theme for the ceremony, or fit in with the vibe of the venue. You may find it beneficial to arrange a consultation with an experienced and knowledgeable florist to cover any concerns or questions you may have if you are unsure of which flowers would work best for you and your budget.
